Smoke-Free Campus Policy

1. Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to ensure a healthy, safe, and clean learning and working environment for all members of the European University of Lefke (EUL) community by designating specific smoking areas and maintaining smoke-free zones throughout the campus.

2. Scope

This policy applies to all individuals on EUL premises, including:

– Academic and administrative staff
– Students
– Visitors or guests

The policy covers all university-owned, leased, or operated properties, including buildings, offices, classrooms, laboratories, dormitories, sports facilities, parking areas, and all open or green spaces within the campus.

3. Policy Statement

The European University of Lefke is committed to maintaining a primarily smoke-free campus. Smoking and the use of tobacco products are strictly prohibited in all indoor areas and in most outdoor spaces, except for designated smoking areas clearly identified throughout the campus.

4. Implementation and Enforcement

Signage: ‘Designated Smoking Area’ and ‘Smoke-Free Zone’ signs will be clearly displayed throughout the campus

5. Support and Cessation Programs

EUL encourages members of its community who wish to quit smoking to take advantage of counseling and health support services provided by the university’s Health Center and Counselling and Guidance Centre.

The university may also collaborate with external health organizations to provide cessation workshops and educational seminars.

6. Statement of Commitment

The European University of Lefke recognizes that maintaining a primarily smoke-free campus—with limited, clearly defined smoking areas—is essential for safeguarding the health and well-being of its community and ensuring a sustainable, environmentally responsible institution.
