Community Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Business Support Policy

1. Purpose

This policy outlines the European University of Lefke’s commitment to supporting the local community in establishing financially viable and socially sustainable businesses. The aim is to strengthen regional economic development, promote innovation, and encourage socially responsible entrepreneurship.

2. Scope

This policy applies to:

  • Local entrepreneurs and community members
  • Agricultural cooperatives, SMEs, and social enterprises
  • Youth, women, and disadvantaged groups seeking entrepreneurial support
  • EUL academic and administrative units involved in community engagement and economic development initiatives

3. Policy Statement

The European University of Lefke (EUL) is committed to fostering community development and entrepreneurial growth. To this end, the University provides financial assistance, mentoring, infrastructure support, and training initiatives designed to promote the creation and growth of sustainable businesses in the region.

4. Forms of Support

4.1 Financial Support

  • Micro-funding and seed grant opportunities
  • Discounted access to university laboratories, equipment, and testing facilities
  • Fundraising guidance and access to external funding networks (local government, NGOs, EU programmes)

4.2 Capacity Building & Mentorship

  • Entrepreneurship workshops, business planning training, and start-up coaching
  • Mentorship from faculty experts and external industry professionals
  • Legal, financial, and operational advisory support for start-up projects

4.3 Infrastructure & Resource Access

  • Access to laboratories, research facilities, and agricultural land (for agri-businesses)
  • Access to co-working and incubation spaces
  • Digital resources, innovation labs, and university libraries

5. Priority Groups

Priority assistance may be given to:

  • Local youth and recent graduates
  • Women entrepreneurs
  • Rural and agricultural producers
  • Social enterprises and environmentally sustainable initiatives

6. Governance

Programmes under this policy will be coordinated by:

  • Technology Transfer Office (TTO)
  • Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies (for agri-initiatives)
  • Continuing Education Centre (SÜSEM/CEC)
  • Community Engagement and Outreach Office

7. Monitoring & Evaluation

The University will monitor:

  • Number of entrepreneurs supported
  • Funding amounts provided 
  • Business sustainability and growth outcomes
  • Social and economic impact on the region

Annual progress reports will be submitted to the University Executive Board.

8. Review

This policy will be reviewed every two (2) years to ensure alignment with regional development priorities, national innovation strategies, and international best practices.
